[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The family of Ryu Jin, the owner of the defense company Poongsan and the new chairman of the Korea Business Association, is belatedly drawing attention to allegations of dodging military service.
According to the artificial intelligence disclosure analysis program Takion on the 11th, Ryu's wife, Roh Hye-kyung (63), and her son, Sung-gon (30), suddenly abandoned their Korean nationality and became American nationals in 2014.
In a public announcement on March 29, 2013, a year ago, both people marked their nationality as Republic of Korea.
"There is no reason for Sung Gon to be exempted from physical examination because he has played golf since middle school," Cho Ho-jin, CEO of Takion World, told Alpha Business. "It is also possible to assume that Sung Gon abandoned his Korean nationality and acquired U.S. nationality to avoid military service."
Coincidentally, Ryu Sung-gon's abandonment of his nationality was just over the age of 20. He usually takes a physical examination at the Military Manpower Administration at the age of 19, right after graduating from high school. In physical examinations, military service grades will be given due to active duty, reservist duty, and exemption.
Ryu, the second-generation chairman of Poongsan, the nation's No. 1 defense company, is known to be proud to be a descendant of Seo-ae Ryu Sung-ryong.
