[Alpha Biz= Ellie Kim] Kakao Games reported a wider operating loss for the first quarter, marking its sixth consecutive quarter in the red.

According to its regulatory filing on April 30, the company posted an operating loss of KRW 25.5 billion, compared with a loss of KRW 12.4 billion a year earlier. Revenue fell 32.5% year-on-year to KRW 82.9 billion, while net loss widened to KRW 39.5 billion.

By segment, PC online game revenue rose 4% to approximately KRW 27.9 billion, while mobile game revenue dropped 43% to KRW 55.0 billion.

Kakao Games attributed the weak performance to limited contributions from new titles in the quarter. The company plans to launch several new games this year, including MMORPG “Odin Q,” strategy adventure RPG “Dungeon Arise,” and open-world zombie survival simulator “God Save Birmingham.”
