[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korean authorities have referred multiple individuals to prosecutors over alleged leaks of submarine cable production designs belonging to LS Cable & System.

According to the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency on May 28, a total of 13 individuals—including employees of Taihan Cable & Solution, personnel from an architectural firm, and equipment suppliers—have been forwarded without detention on charges of violating the Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act. Three companies were also referred under corporate liability provisions.

Investigators allege that Taihan Cable employees improperly obtained LS Cable & System’s trade secrets, including technical data and design blueprints, from the architectural firm during the construction of a submarine cable plant in Dangjin between 2022 and 2023, and incorporated them into project designs.

The architectural firm had previously worked with LS Cable & System on submarine cable facility designs for years before participating in Taihan Cable’s plant construction project.

LS Cable & System has claimed that its proprietary technologies were used throughout the project, while Taihan Cable has denied any wrongdoing.

Police concluded their three-year investigation—based on search and seizure operations, forensic analysis, and witness interviews—determining that sufficient evidence exists to support the allegations.
