[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The government will maintain the framework of the current "52-hour workweek," but it will be flexible so that only some industries and jobs can work more and rest when they are busy.

Industries subject to flexibility, occupations, and weekly working hours will be confirmed later through surveys and social dialogue. According to the results of the public survey, there was a high demand for easing the limit to "up to 60 hours a week" only for manufacturing and production workers.

On the 13th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced the results of a face-to-face survey of 6,030 people in June ∼ August on working hours and the direction of the system reform that reflects them.

The Ministry of Labor analyzed that the survey of 3,839 workers, 976 business owners and 1,215 people showed that the current 52-hour workweek (basic 40 hours + 12 hours of extended work) has been settled, but some industries and jobs are struggling.

41.4 percent of workers, 38.2 percent of employers and 46.4 percent of the public agreed to expand the extended work unit to "work more when they are busy and work less when not to make extended working hours less than an average of 12 hours per week."

Regarding the application of this to some industries and occupations, the consent rate (43.0% for workers, 47.5% for employers, and 54.4% for the public) rose further.

Reflecting the results of the survey, the Ministry of Labor said it will discuss supplementary measures for some industries and occupations that allow labor and management to choose extended work management units if they want.
