[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung SDI Establishs Battery Lab in China. It is the third overseas research institute after Europe and the United States, and has stepped up its global R&D capabilities.
Samsung SDI announced on the 2nd that it has established 'SDI R&D China (SDIRC)' in Shanghai, China. SDIRC works with excellent universities and research institutes in China to secure specialized skills. In addition, it plans to establish a battery material verification lab (Lab) in the laboratory to discover and verify high value-added and low-priced materials.
China is focusing its efforts on the battery industry under the leadership of the government, announcing its "New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan" in 2020. It is believed that Samsung SDI has established a research institute to secure excellent technologies and cooperate in China, as it has trained battery professionals at more than 30 universities and has a number of battery cell and material companies and research institutes.
Samsung SDI built a global R&D network with the establishment of SDIRC. The company established 'SDI R&D Europe (SDIRE)' in Munich, Germany in July last year and 'SDI R&D America (SDIRA)' in Boston, USA in August. The goal is to strengthen the competitiveness of ultra-difference technologies by securing strong technologies such as battery construction methods and facilities by region, next-generation batteries, and material technologies early.
Samsung SDI is focusing on developing next-generation battery technology with the industry's best R&D investment.
