Gwanghwamun Square, Venue for BTS Comeback Concert (Seoul=Yonhap News) |
[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] With just three days remaining until BTS’s upcoming performance at Gwanghwamun, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on March 18 that it has completed final checks on crowd control and public safety measures.
During the fifth vice mayoral-level coordination meeting on the BTS comeback event held the same day, the city reviewed plans for crowd monitoring across Gwanghwamun Square and other key areas, deployment of fire and safety personnel, and emergency medical response systems.
Seoul plans to establish an integrated on-site command post (CP) on the fourth floor of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, which will operate from 10:00 a.m. on the day of the event until the situation concludes. The command post will be led by Second Vice Mayor Kim Sung-bo and include senior officials from the city’s disaster and safety headquarters, the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, local district offices, police, fire authorities, and event organizers.
A total of approximately 8,200 safety personnel will be deployed, including around 3,400 from the city, district governments, and fire authorities, as well as about 4,800 staff from the event organizers. To prepare for potential communication disruptions due to surging network traffic, 98 units of the public safety LTE (PS-LTE) communication system will also be distributed to relevant agencies.
The Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Headquarters will mobilize a record level of firefighting resources, including 102 fire trucks and 803 personnel. Additionally, 20 ambulances from other regions will be pre-deployed near the venue under a national emergency mobilization plan. Chiefs from seven nearby fire stations will also be placed on standby, with 38 vehicles and 138 personnel ready for immediate deployment.
To accommodate international visitors, the city will provide multilingual services. Event information will be available in English, Chinese, and Japanese through official websites and event calendars, while a dedicated “Seoul Event Tourism Guidebook” will offer safety guidelines and cultural and tourism information in seven languages. The Dasan Call Center (120) will expand support in English, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Mongolian, and additional interpreters and volunteer guides will be stationed on-site.
First Vice Mayor Jung Sang-hoon stated, “We have been conducting weekly review meetings to ensure that our safety measures are fully operational in real-world conditions. We will continue to make every effort to ensure that both local residents and international visitors can enjoy the event safely without any incidents.”
