[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Police have summoned a site manager from POSCO E&C for questioning in connection with a fatal workplace accident that occurred late last year at the Sinansan Line construction site near Yeouido Station in Seoul.
According to authorities on May 14, the Metropolitan Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency called in the site manager, identified only as Mr. A, on May 12 on suspicion of occupational negligence resulting in death and injury.
Mr. A is accused of failing to fulfill his duty to prevent accidents at the construction site. This marks the first time that a POSCO E&C official has been investigated as a suspect in the case.
The accident occurred on December 18, 2025, when steel reinforcement bars fell at the construction site, injuring workers. A worker in his 50s who sustained critical injuries was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest but later died.
Earlier, on December 30, authorities—including the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office, and the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office—executed search and seizure warrants on POSCO E&C and its subcontractors to secure relevant evidence.
