[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SK hynix and Naver Cloud have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen development capabilities for next-generation AI memory solutions, often referred to as the “second HBM (High Bandwidth Memory).” The collaboration will enable verification of technologies such as Processing-In-Memory (PIM) and Compute Express Link (CXL) in real-world data center environments, expediting their path to commercialization.

Under the agreement announced on September 10, the two companies will jointly conduct performance evaluation and optimization of next-generation AI memory and storage solutions in actual AI service environments.

“Securing products that have been validated in real-world data center operations is essential to reinforce our technological leadership in the global AI solutions market,” said a spokesperson from SK hynix. “Through this partnership with Naver Cloud, we aim to deliver AI solution products optimized for data centers while continuously uncovering innovative use cases that deliver tangible value to customers.”

The partnership will allow SK hynix to test its AI-optimized products—including CXL and PIM—under diverse workloads in Naver Cloud’s large-scale data centers, maximizing performance. Naver Cloud, in turn, will benefit from verified high-performance memory and storage solutions to improve AI service responsiveness and reduce operating costs, creating a “win-win” collaboration.

CXL is an advanced interconnect technology that links CPUs, GPUs, and memory within computing systems to support high-capacity, ultra-high-speed processing. PIM enhances memory semiconductors with processing capabilities, alleviating data bottlenecks in AI and big data applications.

SK hynix has already introduced “GDDR6-AiM,” a PIM-enabled graphics DRAM, leading the industry toward PIM commercialization.

Ahn Hyun, Head of Development at SK hynix, stated:
“Through rigorous validation in real-world environments, we will provide the highest-quality memory solutions demanded by the global AI ecosystem, solidifying our position as a leading AI memory company. Starting with this collaboration, we also plan to actively expand our technical partnerships with global cloud service providers (CSPs).”
