[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] LG Electronics will establish 'LG Alaska Heat Pump Laboratory' in Alaska, USA to develop high-performance heating and cooling air conditioning products even in cold weather.

LG Electronics recently announced that it launched a consortium (CAHR) to develop heat pump technology for heating and cooling (HVAC) products in Anchorage, Alaska, USA. The consortium will be joined by the University of Anchorage in Alaska and the University of Fairbanks in Alaska, where polar research has been activated.

LG Electronics, which is targeting the air conditioning market with customized heating and cooling solutions in North America and Europe, is paying particular attention to a surge in demand for high-efficiency heat pump heating and cooling systems that reduce carbon emissions without using fossil fuels.

In areas with low temperatures such as Alaska, heat pump heating and cooling products reduce pressure to compress refrigerant and accordingly reduce the amount of circulating refrigerant, making it difficult to increase heating performance. LG Electronics has set up a laboratory in Alaska where products can be developed and verified in a cold environment to make heat pumps that produce the highest level of heating performance in any environment.
