[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] LG Uplus reported that call information of 36 subscribers was temporarily exposed in its on-device AI call application “IXIO,” raising questions over the security of on-device artificial intelligence technologies emphasized by the telecom industry.

According to the company, the incident occurred due to a cache configuration error during service improvement work. As a result, certain information — including the called party’s phone number, call time, and a summary of the call content — was briefly shown to 101 other users. The leaked data did not include resident registration numbers, passport numbers, or financial information.

Although IXIO has been promoted as an on-device AI service, LG Uplus confirmed that some functions still rely on server-based processing due to current limitations in AI performance and model optimization. The company clarified that data processed through servers, as well as information retained for up to six months, is stored with user consent obtained during the subscription process. The limited data retention is intended to ensure service continuity when users change devices or reinstall the app.

LG Uplus acknowledged that its marketing and promotional materials may have led users to believe all IXIO features were handled entirely on-device and apologized for the disappointment caused by the incident.
