[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] SK Hynix is set to supply NVIDIA with exclusive supply of HBM3E, 5th generation high bandwidth memory (HBM).
According to the semiconductor industry on the 16th, SK Hynix will provide NVIDIA with HBM3E that meets the mass production quality early next year and start the final qualification test. The quality test is the last gateway before the contract where the customer sees whether the supplier's product is deliverable quality and finally certifies it. It means that it already meets the specifications for delivery and is actually only about to sign a contract. Unless there is a special problem, the delivery contract is usually signed within one to two months of the quality test.
HBM3E is entering B100, a flagship graphics processing unit (GPU) for next-generation AI that NVIDIA plans to launch in the second quarter of next year. The market predicts that B100 will be a more powerful AI game changer than H100, currently NVIDIA's top-end GPU. This product is mainly used for AI cloud and supercomputing. NVIDIA accounts for more than 90% of the AI GPU market share.
As scheduled, SK Hynix will exclusively supply NVIDIA to HBM3E, the world's best specification, following HBM3. By strengthening our partnership with NVIDIA, HBM's largest customer, we have proved our technological advantage over our competitors once again. SK Hynix is the number one company that accounts for more than half of the global HBM market share.
SK Hynix plans to start mass production of HBM3E early next year in time for quality testing and contract time. A small amount of wafers are already being used to meet mass production volume.
