[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] KB Kookmin Card, which suffered from a massive leak of customer personal information in 2013, won a lawsuit against credit rating agency KCB (Korea Credit View) and received about 62.4 billion won.

According to legal circles on the 18th, the first division of the Supreme Court (Supreme Court Justice Seo Kyung-hwan) rejected the original trial, which ruled partially in favor of the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed by KB Kookmin Card against KCB on the 25th of last month.

After KB Kookmin Card entrusted KCB with the upgrade of the card accident analysis system in 2013, employee A, who was in charge of the task, leaked more than 53 million KB Kookmin Card personal information. A was handed over to trial and sentenced to three years in prison, and KB Kookmin Card was also fined.

KB Kookmin Card filed a lawsuit to the effect that KCB, a user of A, should compensate for the damage as customer information was leaked due to A's illegal activities.

However, the first trial ruled that KCB should pay 60%, or 30.3 billion won, of the damages suffered by KB Kookmin Card at 50.6 billion won, while the second trial further recognized KB Kookmin Card's damages at 89.1 billion won and decided that it should pay about 70%, or 62.4 billion won.

Although KCB appealed against the ruling, the Supreme Court upheld the ruling, believing there was no problem with the lower court's judgment.
