[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, was seen visiting a shopping mall in Beijing while accompanying South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on his state visit to China.
According to local Chinese media reports on January 6, Lee visited the JD Mall in Beijing’s Chaoyang District on the previous day, accompanied by a small delegation of six to seven people, including an interpreter. The mall is operated by JD.com, one of China’s leading e-commerce companies, and the Beijing Shuangjing branch opened last year.
Store employees told local media that Lee arrived at the mall around 2 p.m. and toured several sections, asking questions about products such as sofas and bathroom fixtures. Some reports initially claimed that Lee purchased a popular character doll produced by Chinese brand Pop Mart, but this was later confirmed to be untrue.
Photos circulating online showed Lee wearing a business suit with a red tie while walking through the mall, and in other images, he was seen wearing a gray padded vest over his suit.
Lee’s visit quickly drew attention in China, ranking among the top real-time search terms on Baidu, the country’s largest search engine.
Lee is visiting China as part of a business delegation accompanying President Lee Jae-myung. On January 5, he attended the Korea-China Business Forum held at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. The forum brought together senior business leaders from both countries, including SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Euisun, and LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo.
