[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Samsung Electronics has partnered with U.S.-based identity verification firm CLEAR to expand digital identification capabilities within Samsung Wallet.
Samsung Electronics America announced on May 26 (local time) the launch of “Samsung ID with CLEAR,” a mobile digital identity solution based on U.S. passport credentials verified by CLEAR. The service allows users to store a passport-based digital ID in Samsung Wallet and use it for identity verification at more than 250 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints across the United States.
Available to U.S. passport holders, the feature can be added through the Samsung Wallet app. Users can present their digital ID at airport security via tap or QR code scanning. Samsung noted that the service may also be used for domestic air travel and at select venues such as BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
Samsung Wallet integrates payment cards, IDs, boarding passes, tickets, and digital keys into a single platform. With this partnership, Samsung aims to expand its wallet service beyond payments into secure identity verification.
Security features include biometric or passcode authentication, with sensitive ID data encrypted and stored directly on Galaxy devices. Samsung emphasized that its Knox security platform ensures strong protection of digital identity information.
The move comes as competition intensifies in mobile identity services, following similar initiatives by Apple, which introduced passport-based digital IDs in Apple Wallet last year.
