[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Amazon has, for the first time, become one of the top five customers of Samsung Electronics, reflecting rising semiconductor demand and higher chip prices.
According to Samsung Electronics’ first-quarter report released on May 15, its five largest clients are Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Hong Kong Techtronics, and Supreme Electronics. These customers collectively accounted for approximately 23% of the company’s total revenue.
Amazon’s inclusion in the top-tier customer group is attributed to increased semiconductor purchases and favorable pricing trends.
By region, Samsung Electronics reported its highest net sales in the Americas at KRW 59.75 trillion, followed by China at KRW 28.16 trillion, Asia and Africa at KRW 16.76 trillion, and Europe at KRW 15.71 trillion.
Sales in the Americas nearly doubled from KRW 30.22 trillion a year earlier, while revenue from China more than tripled from KRW 9.01 trillion over the same period.
Samsung Electronics has also strengthened its position in the global semiconductor market through a long-term foundry agreement with Tesla, signing a KRW 20 trillion ($16.6 billion) contract last year extending through 2033.
