[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) announced that Hyundai Motor, Kia, and BMW Korea will voluntarily recall a total of approximately 107,000 vehicles across 37 models due to manufacturing defects.

According to Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the recalls involve vehicles that were either manufactured or imported and sold in South Korea and pose potential fire hazards.

Hyundai and Kia EVs

Hyundai will recall about 37,000 units of four models, including the Kona Electric, while Kia will recall approximately 1,000 units of the Niro EV. The vehicles are affected by defects in the battery management system, which could increase the risk of fire in the high-voltage battery.

Corrective measures for Hyundai and Kia electric vehicles will begin on February 27.

BMW Models

BMW Korea will recall around 67,000 vehicles across 32 models, including the BMW 520i, due to a potential short circuit in internal starter motor components that could lead to fire.

The recall for BMW vehicles will commence on March 4.

MOLIT stated that vehicle owners can check detailed recall information through official recall notification systems and are advised to promptly receive corrective services to ensure safety.
