[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Naver Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) have agreed to collaborate on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, aiming to build an ecosystem capable of running Naver’s large language model (LLM) “HyperCLOVA X” on AMD’s graphics processing units (GPUs).
Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon and AMD CEO Lisa Su signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on March 18 at Naver’s headquarters “1784” in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, in the presence of key executives from both companies. The agreement focuses on expanding the AI ecosystem and advancing next-generation infrastructure.
Under the partnership, the two companies will work to create an environment where AI technologies can operate seamlessly across diverse infrastructure platforms. As a first step, they will strengthen technical cooperation to develop GPU-optimized computing environments tailored for HyperCLOVA X, with the goal of enhancing infrastructure capabilities for stable AI model operations.
Naver, which has independently developed its own LLM, data centers, cloud infrastructure, and user services, will leverage its technological capabilities to implement and scale AMD’s next-generation infrastructure in real-world service environments.
In addition, the companies plan to support academic research by providing AI computing resources and conducting joint research projects, fostering innovation across a variety of infrastructure settings.
The collaboration has drawn attention for its potential to reduce reliance on Nvidia GPUs, which currently dominate the AI computing market.
