[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] South Korean prosecutors have sought a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, for Jung Seung-bin, husband of Kurly CEO Kim Seul-a, on charges of forcible molestation.
During a hearing at the Seoul Eastern District Court on March 10, prosecutors also requested that Jung be ordered to complete a sexual violence treatment program, have his personal information disclosed, and face a three-year employment restriction.
According to the indictment, Jung allegedly forcibly molested a female probationary employee during a company dinner at a restaurant in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on June 26 last year. Prosecutors said he repeatedly touched the victim, including pulling her shoulder and stroking her cheek.
Jung has reportedly admitted the charges during the investigation and acknowledged the prosecution’s claims in court.
His lawyer said Jung deeply regrets his actions and acknowledges there is no excuse for his behavior.
The victim, who has since been hired as a full-time employee at Kurly, submitted a statement indicating she does not wish to pursue punishment against Jung.
In his final statement, Jung said he does not view the incident as a simple mistake but as a reflection of problems with his personal conduct and self-control, adding that he will prove his remorse through his actions.
The court is scheduled to deliver its first-instance ruling on April 7 at 1:50 p.m..
