[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] Duty-free shops at Incheon International Airport Terminal 2 are busy with refurbishment. Lotte Duty Free Shop, which had been in operation in July last year, withdrew from Incheon International Airport for the first time in 22 years, and Shilla, Shinsegae and Hyundai Department Store Duty Free Shop began operations in 10 years.
The three duty-free shops plan to officially open in the second half of this year or early next year after preparing to open their stores.
MCM, Tumi, Gucci, Gentle Monster, Tiffany & Co. and Omega are currently in the process of opening stores. Competition for brand entry is particularly fierce at Incheon International Airport as all three duty-free shops have business rights to luxury boutique stores.
In the middle of Terminal 2, where luxury brands such as Hermes, Gucci, and Celine are mainly located, Hyundai Department Store's Gucci store is under construction across from Chanel store.
Shinsegae Duty Free's Hermes will enter the temporarily operated Gucci store as a duplex store. Hermes withdrew from Incheon International Airport in June last year due to the termination of its contract, but Shinsegae Duty Free succeeded in attracting it again after efforts.
There were especially many foreigners in the Gentle Monster store, and the Shilla Duty Free shop on the opposite side is preparing a much larger Gentle Monster store. The new Gentle Monster store is scheduled to open on the 15th. Shilla Duty Free will also showcase its duplex store at Changi Airport Duty Free Shop in the second half of this year.
