[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korea’s presidential office, Cheong Wa Dae, said it is closely monitoring developments following reports that Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, was killed in attacks by the United States and Israel, while taking multifaceted measures to ensure the safety of South Korean nationals overseas.

In a press statement released on the 1st, Cheong Wa Dae said, “We are closely watching related developments and are taking comprehensive steps to protect the safety of our citizens abroad,” adding that it hopes “stability and peace in the Middle East will be restored as soon as possible.”

Earlier, the United States and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran on the 28th (local time).

On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on his social media platform Truth Social that “Khamenei, one of the most evil figures in history, is dead,” calling it “justice for all Americans and victims around the world who were killed or maimed by Khamenei and his bloodthirsty gang, as well as for the Iranian people.”

The Iranian government later officially announced Khamenei’s death, declaring a 40-day national mourning period and a one-week public holiday.
