[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The Personal Information Protection Committee announced on the 7th that it is conducting an investigation into the collection and processing of personal information by major foreign direct purchase (direct purchase) companies such as Ali Express (Ali) and Temu.
"We have been investigating the collection and processing of personal information by major overseas direct purchase companies since last month in the wake of the parliamentary audit," the Personal Information Protection Commission said. "We will check the appropriateness of the personal information processing policy, overseas relocation, and the obligation to take safety measures under the Personal Information Protection Act, and take measures in accordance with relevant laws if violations are confirmed."
Earlier on the 6th, the Fair Trade Commission also launched an investigation into the recent controversy over consumer damage by users of Aliexpress. The Fair Trade Commission is reportedly investigating whether Ali Express has complied with its consumer protection obligations stipulated in the e-commerce law.
On the other hand, the Personal Information Protection Committee is also investigating Coupang regarding the leakage of personal information of major platform companies.
