Samsung Electronics has succeeded in turning its memory business into a surplus this year.

[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Electronics, the world's No. 1 memory company, has succeeded in turning its memory business into a surplus this year. Following the DRAM surplus in the fourth quarter of last year, the entire memory sector, including NAND flash, turned to surplus in January.

According to industries on the 9th, Samsung Electronics recorded a surplus in memory, including DRAM and NAND, as a result of its monthly provisional earnings settlement in January.

Samsung Electronics' overall memory performance turned positive (+) as its DRAM business posted a surplus in the fourth quarter of last year and its NAND performance improved this year. If this trend continues until the end of this month, Samsung Electronics' memory in the first quarter of this year is expected to post a quarterly surplus for the first time in five quarters.

Kim Jae-joon, vice president of strategic marketing at Samsung Electronics' memory business division, earlier predicted in a conference call for its fourth-quarter earnings that the memory business is expected to turn into a surplus in the first quarter of this year.
