[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering announced on the 5th that it has signed a construction contract with a total of 14 Oceania and European-based carriers, including four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, two automobile carriers (PCTC), two large crude oil carriers (VLCC), two medium-sized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers and four petrochemical product (PC) carriers. The total contract size is 2.7218 trillion won.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering won four orders for 174,000 cubic meters of LNG carriers from Oceania's shipping company on Feb. 24, opening the door to this order march. The price per ship is $270 million, the highest ever, and will be built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, South Jeolla Province, and delivered to the shipper by January 2028.
On the 26th, it won an order from a European-based shipping company for two 7500UNIT (1UNIT)-class auto carriers (PCTC) equipped with LNG dual-fuel propulsion engines. The total contract amount is 356.3 billion won, which will be built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan and delivered sequentially to the shipper by May 2028.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering won an order for two large crude oil carriers (VLCC) worth a total of 343.9 billion won from Oceania shipping companies on the 27th. These ships will be built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and will be delivered to the shipper by December 2026.
The order march continued even in March. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering won orders for two 45,000-square-meter mid-sized LPG carriers and four 115,000-ton petrochemical product carriers (PCs) from European and Oceania-based shipping companies, respectively, on the 1st.
