[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Rotem will set up a new U.S. plant in 16 years. Construction is expected to begin as early as this year as it recently won orders for trains in Los Angeles (LA), the U.S., worth 870 billion won.
According to industry sources on the 11th, Hyundai Rotem is currently looking for candidates from various regions to build production bases in the United States. It is the first time in 16 years that Hyundai Rotem will set up a plant in the U.S. since the completion of its plant in Philadelphia in 2009.
Hyundai Rotem's US plant is part of the 'LA Metro train supply business' that recently won the order. Hyundai Rotem was selected as the final operator in a bid to win about 868.8 billion won worth of metro train supply projects ordered by the city of Los Angeles in January. Hyundai Rotem plans to replace the old local train in LA, which has been in operation since 1993.
