[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Samsung Biologics is facing its first-ever risk of a labor strike since its founding, as union members overwhelmingly voted in favor of industrial action.

More than 95% of participating union members supported strike action in a recent vote, significantly raising the likelihood of a walkout.

Labor and management have held 13 rounds of negotiations over key issues, including wage increases, but have failed to reach an agreement. The union is demanding an average wage increase of 14% along with expanded performance-based bonuses, while management has maintained its position of a mid-6% increase.

If both sides fail to reach a compromise, the union plans to proceed with collective action by the end of next month, followed by a full-scale strike starting May 1.

Concerns are mounting that a strike could disrupt operations at Samsung Biologics’ contract manufacturing facilities for biopharmaceuticals.
