The government should establish a plan to promote the Metaverse industry every three years and apply the principle of permission and post-regulation first in developing related technologies.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that a bill to enact the "Virtual Convergence Industry Promotion Act" was approved at a Cabinet meeting on the 20th.
The bill is designed to define the definition of Metaverse and systematically foster related Metaverse industries and services, while proactively improving regulatory issues arising from the convergence of various industries and technologies.
The government should lay the foundation for the development of Metaverse technologies and services, such as fostering professional human resources necessary for the metaverse industry, promoting technology development, creating an R&D base, and supporting standardization.
The Minister of Science and ICT may designate and support dedicated institutions and regional Metabus Industry Support Centers in order to efficiently promote policies on the promotion of the Metaverse industry.
In order to revitalize the private Metaverse market, the government will also introduce a virtual convergence project impact assessment system that analyzes the impact on the private market when the government and local governments carry out projects related to the development of metaverse technologies and services.
The government has laid the groundwork for the promotion of projects to protect users' rights, including providing Metaverse-related information, education and protecting children and teenagers. It also imposed an obligation on operators to make efforts to create and maintain a sound metaverse ecosystem by preventing unfair discriminatory content production and distribution.
