[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Following Asiana Airlines, Korean Air has confirmed that the personal information of its employees was recently compromised. On December 29, Korean Air reported that a catering partner, KC&D Services, had been hacked, resulting in the exposure of approximately 30,000 records containing employee names, phone numbers, and bank account information.

KC&D Services was sold in December 2020 to private equity firm Hahn & Company. The data breach appears to involve employee information remaining on company servers at the time of the sale. Korean Air stated that no customer information was compromised and that the relevant authorities have been notified.

While there is currently no evidence of additional data leakage, Korean Air has advised employees to be cautious of potential scams, including transfer requests or security card information demands from sources impersonating the company or financial institutions, to prevent secondary damage.

Earlier, Asiana Airlines also reported a hacking incident in which personal information of about 10,000 employees and partner company staff was exposed. Asiana Airlines confirmed that customer information was not affected.

The Cyber Terror Investigation Unit of the National Police Agency has initiated a preliminary investigation into the Asiana Airlines incident.
