[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korea’s financial watchdog has launched an emergency on-site inspection of Shinhan Card following a personal data breach involving internal employees.

According to authorities, Shinhan Card employees leaked approximately 190,000 cases of personal information — including mobile phone numbers and dates of birth of merchants — during the process of recruiting new card members.

The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) said it will closely examine the possibility of additional personal data leaks as well as the company’s internal control systems, and will take appropriate action in accordance with the Credit Information Use and Protection Act and related regulations.
