Police Launch Investigation After Online Post Threatening Suicide Attack at Gimpo Airport

[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Police have launched an investigation after a post threatening a suicide attack at Gimpo International Airport was uploaded to an anonymous online community for office workers.

According to aviation industry sources on the 19th, a post was published earlier that morning on an anonymous workplace community by an individual believed to be an airline captain. The post reportedly included the coordinates of Gimpo Airport and implied a suicide attack.

Following a report, the Gimpo Airport Police Unit and the Gangseo Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the area, began investigating the case. In matters involving potential aviation security risks or terrorist threats, relevant information is shared among government agencies under South Korea’s nationwide counterterrorism framework.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the relevant supervising authority, said it would closely monitor the situation while awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.
