[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul – Hyundai Motor Company has decided to temporarily suspend non-essential business travel to the United States, following the detention of more than 300 foreign workers, including Korean nationals, at the construction site of its joint battery plant with LG Energy Solution in Georgia.

According to the auto industry on September 7, Hyundai advised employees scheduled for travel to the U.S. next week that business trips should be postponed unless absolutely necessary. The company noted that only urgent or essential travel will be permitted under the current circumstances.

On September 4, U.S. immigration authorities carried out a raid at the Hyundai Motor Group–LG Energy Solution (HL-GA) battery plant construction site in Georgia. The operation led to the detention of about 300 individuals, including 47 LG Energy Solution personnel (46 South Korean nationals and one Indonesian national), as well as more than 250 subcontractor workers affiliated with HL-GA.

Hyundai Motor’s U.S. subsidiary emphasized: “We are committed to full compliance with laws and regulations in every market where we operate, including employment verification and immigration laws. We are conducting thorough reviews of labor practices by contractors and subcontractors.”
