[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] TCL has overtaken Samsung Electronics to rank first in the global TV market on a monthly shipment basis, although Samsung is still expected to have retained the top position for the full year.
According to the latest Global Monthly TV Tracker released by Counterpoint Research on Wednesday, TCL captured a 16% share of global TV shipments in December, with total shipments rising 1.6% year on year.
Samsung Electronics ranked second with a 13% market share, marking the first time it has lost the monthly lead after holding the top spot for 11 consecutive months from January through November 2025. Samsung’s share fell by 4 percentage points from 17% in the previous month.
Counterpoint said Samsung’s December shipments increased 8% year on year, supported by strong growth in North and South America, but steeper declines in Western Europe and the Middle East and Africa outweighed those gains.
On a full fourth-quarter basis, however, Samsung’s shipments rose 2%, allowing it to outperform TCL overall during the quarter.
China’s Hisense ranked third in December, though its shipments declined 23% year on year, the report showed.
