[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] LS Group announced on October 25 that LS- L&F Battery Solution (LLBS), a new corporation to enter the secondary battery material field, was approved by domestic and foreign government authorities and became an LS subsidiary.
According to LS, LLBS has obtained approval to establish a corporation from rival authorities in Korea, China, Poland and Vietnam, judging that "the establishment of the two companies does not restrict competition in the global precursor market and the front and rear markets."
As a result, LS will be able to speed up its plan of initial mass production in early 2026, which was originally established, by gaining more momentum in factory and facility design and recruitment of professional personnel to produce a precursor, a secondary battery anode material in Saemangeum Industrial Complex 5.
As part of that, in June this year, the company agreed to join hands with L&F, a company specializing in high nickel anode materials, to establish a joint venture LS- L&F battery solution for the precursor business, a key technology material for anode materials.
LLBS will start construction of its precursor plant, a secondary battery material, in Saemangeum by the end of this year and push ahead with the goal of producing 120,000 tons in 2029 by continuing to increase production after starting mass production in 2026. The total business size is more than 1 trillion won, and its subsidiary LS MnM is also considering additional investment in the future.
LS Group plans to enter the secondary battery industry ecosystem in earnest by establishing an industrial value chain that leads to nickel sulfate → precursor → anode material through LS MnM and LS- L&F battery solutions.
