[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Aekyung Industrial is voluntarily recalling six Chinese-made toothpaste products after the presence of triclosan, a substance banned for oral care products, was detected. Approximately 25 million potentially affected units have been distributed in the market.
According to the company on the 13th, some products manufactured since April 2023 were found to contain the preservative triclosan. During this period, 31 million units were produced, of which 25 million were distributed. About 82% of the distributed products are small-sized items, including 4g single-use packets and 20g or 50g mini tubes, while the remainder consists of regular tube toothpaste for household use.
Following a recall order from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), Aekyung Industrial initiated a voluntary recall on February 6, covering all production dates. The recalled products include:
2080 Basic Toothpaste
2080 Daily Care Toothpaste
2080 Smart Care Plus Toothpaste
2080 Classic Care Toothpaste
2080 Triple Effect Alpha Fresh Toothpaste
2080 Triple Effect Alpha Strong Toothpaste
These products were manufactured by Domy in China and imported and sold by Aekyung Industrial. The detected triclosan concentration in the affected products reached up to 0.15%.
Triclosan is a preservative used to prevent product deterioration. The MFDS banned its use in oral care products in October 2016 due to safety concerns. In Europe, its use in toothpaste is allowed at concentrations below 0.3%.
Aekyung Industrial emphasized that all other toothpaste products, which are domestically produced, meet quality and safety standards and are unaffected by this recall.
