[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] LG Uplus has reported a data exposure incident involving its artificial intelligence (AI) call application “Ixio,” in which certain users’ call information was inadvertently shown to other customers. The exposed data included phone numbers, call timestamps, and AI-generated call summaries. The company emphasized that the incident stemmed from human error, not an external hacking attack.
On December 6 at 9 a.m., LG Uplus voluntarily notified the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) of the data exposure.
According to the company, during recent system improvement work for the Ixio service, a misconfiguration in the cache (temporary storage) settings caused partial call information from 36 customers—including the called party’s phone number, call time, and a one-line call summary—to be temporarily displayed to 101 other users.
The exposure occurred between 8:00 p.m. on December 2 and 10:59 a.m. on December 3. Users who newly installed or reinstalled the Ixio app during this period (101 people) may have viewed the information, with each individual seeing data from between one and six other customers.
The exposed data did not include resident registration numbers, passport numbers, or financial information.
LG Uplus clarified that the incident did not meet the legal threshold requiring mandatory reporting—such as exposure affecting more than 1,000 individuals or involving sensitive information—but that the company reported it proactively. Because the leak was caused by an internal operational error rather than an external attack, LG Uplus did not separately report the incident to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
The company said it identified the issue on December 3 around 10 a.m. and immediately launched an investigation and restoration process, blocking further visibility of the exposed call information.
LG Uplus subsequently notified all affected customers by phone, and those who could not be reached were contacted through text messages.
