[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] According to industry sources on the 20th, domestic low-cost carriers (LCCs) are gradually increasing their baggage fees.
Jeju Air, starting from July 1st, has decided to raise excess baggage fees. For most routes, they plan to increase excess baggage fees for on-site purchases by about 1,000 won per 1kg, and for pre-purchased excess baggage, they plan to increase fees by about 2,000 to 5,000 won per 5kg.
Jeju Air previously increased baggage fees in March, raising fees to 5,000 won for 15kg of pre-purchased baggage on domestic routes and 10,000 won for routes to Japan, among others.
Eastar Jet also plans to adjust baggage fees upward for all flights starting in August.
For pre-purchased baggage, they currently provide a basic 15kg allowance, with fees increasing from 8,000 won to 10,000 won per additional 5kg for domestic routes, and from 35,000 won to 45,000 won for routes to Japan.
These fee increases are attributed to rising costs such as inflation, fuel prices, and labor expenses.
