[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, Oct. 16 — CJ ENM announced on Wednesday that its online video streaming platform Tving will expand into 17 Asia-Pacific regions through a strategic partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), operator of the global OTT service HBO Max. The two companies have signed an agreement to enhance the global reach and competitiveness of Korean content (K-content).
Under the partnership, Tving-branded sections will launch within HBO Max across Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia, among other Asia-Pacific markets. CJ ENM said the collaboration goes beyond traditional content distribution by enabling joint platform expansion, marking a milestone in strengthening the sustainability of K-content in the global market.
Given the rising popularity of Korean dramas and entertainment shows in Asia, Tving plans to introduce its latest hit series and variety programs through HBO Max to increase visibility and brand recognition.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary in the cultural content business this year, CJ ENM declared 2024 as the “first year of global acceleration,” aiming to establish a comprehensive international footprint that encompasses both content and platform expansion. The company intends to further broaden the influence of K-culture and take the lead in building a sustainable K-content ecosystem.
Through this partnership, Tving will make its first official entry into the Asia-Pacific market via HBO Max’s dedicated “Tving Zone.” The service will roll out pre-launch content in early November, followed by the official launch in early 2025.
CJ ENM and WBD will also pursue co-production of global K-content through joint investments. The companies plan to create high-quality titles that will resonate with international audiences, with jointly produced works set to premiere exclusively on HBO Max worldwide.
