[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] According to the construction industry on the 10th, Daewoo Construction is reportedly considering implementing a paid leave system called "Refresh Leave" for its headquarters employees starting from the 1st of next month for a duration of one year. The specific details are expected to be announced next week after gathering opinions from both labor and management.

As currently known, employees will be able to apply for up to two months of leave, with the option to split it into 15-day periods if desired. During this leave period, it is likely that employees will receive 50% of their base salary.

In the first quarter of this year, Daewoo Construction recorded consolidated sales of 2.4873 trillion won and operating profit of 1.148 trillion won. However, due to a sharp increase in costs, operating profit decreased by 35% compared to the same period last year. Therefore, some analysts speculate that this paid leave initiative may be aimed at reducing labor costs to increase profitability.

Nevertheless, Daewoo Construction maintains that this initiative is aimed at enhancing work efficiency through "refreshing" employees. Recently, the company's labor and management finalized a 3.5% wage increase through interim negotiations for this year.
