[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] CJ Logistics announced that it held discussions with the operator of the Saudi Arabian Integrated Logistics Special Zone, SILZ, on the 2nd regarding cooperation plans as they are in the process of establishing a logistics hub in the Middle East.

According to the company, Fadi Al Buhairan, the CEO of SILZ, and seven other senior officials from SILZ visited CJ Logistics' Incheon GDC on May 30th to observe the advanced logistics operations on site. Incheon GDC is a state-of-the-art global logistics center in South Korea equipped with an automated storage and retrieval system called Auto-Store, giving it a competitive edge.

SILZ serves as the executing agency for the Saudi Integrated Logistics Special Zone project, which spans approximately 3 million square meters in the Riyadh region, the capital city of Saudi Arabia.

CJ Logistics is also constructing the 'Saudi GDC' in Riyadh, with completion expected this year. This facility will cover an area of 18,000 square meters and handle a daily volume of 15,000 boxes, serving as a large-scale fulfillment center for storage, inventory management, packaging, and efficient logistics processes before shipping to nearby areas.

Following the visit by the SILZ delegation, both parties discussed cooperation plans for the operation of the Saudi GDC in the future.

SILZ is responsible for various aspects of operating the logistics special zone, including attracting investors and lessees, licensing, and managing infrastructure construction. It also plays a crucial role in improving the difficulties faced by companies within the special zone and supporting their requests. Additionally, SILZ provides significant benefits such as a 50-year corporate tax exemption and VAT exemption to resident companies.

CJ Logistics plans to complete the Saudi GDC by the end of this year, positioning it as a forward base and hub for e-commerce logistics in the Middle East.
