[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, South Korea — July 28, 2025 — The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced that four health masks failed to meet national quality standards following a comprehensive inspection of masks distributed both online and offline.
In March, the MFDS collected and tested 240 mask products, including health (KF) masks, droplet-blocking masks, and surgical masks. Of the total, 236 products complied with standards, while four health mask products were found non-compliant, reflecting a failure rate of 1.7%.
The MFDS examined key performance metrics — dust collection efficiency for health masks, and liquid resistance for droplet-blocking and surgical masks. Four health mask products failed the dust collection efficiency test, leading to sales suspension orders for the manufacturers:

Dust collection efficiency measures a mask’s ability to filter out fine particles such as aerosols, a critical factor in protecting the respiratory system from harmful particulate matter like fine dust and yellow dust. Liquid resistance tests measure how well droplet-blocking and surgical masks prevent fluid penetration, which is essential for assessing their protective performance.
The MFDS stated it will continue to monitor mask quality to ensure consumer safety and enforce corrective actions against manufacturers of non-compliant products.
