[Alpha Biz= Ellie Kim] The labor union of LG Uplus has called for an official apology from the Samsung Electronics union, accusing it of misrepresenting its stance in response to recent political remarks on labor demands.

In a statement on May 1, the LG Uplus union—affiliated with the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers’ Union—expressed “strong regret” over comments made by the Samsung Electronics union leader. The LG Uplus union said the remarks suggested that the president’s criticism of “excessive demands” was directed not at Samsung but at LG Uplus.

The union emphasized that its demand to allocate 30% of operating profit for performance-based bonuses is not a sudden or opportunistic claim but part of a consistent six-year campaign. It argued that labeling the demand as “excessive” undermines the legitimacy of its long-standing labor efforts.

“Shifting responsibility without verifying facts damages solidarity within the labor movement,” the union said, criticizing what it described as an attempt to deflect criticism by portraying another union’s demands as unreasonable.

The statement also warned against fostering internal labor conflicts, stressing that “workers are not each other’s enemies,” and that undermining fellow unions only reinforces narratives of division among labor groups.

The LG Uplus union urged the Samsung Electronics union to issue a formal apology and immediately cease what it called distortions of other unions’ positions for defensive purposes.
