[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Korean Air to End Ramen Service in Economy Class Starting August 15; Introducing New In-Flight Snack Options.

Korean Air will discontinue its economy class ramen service on long-haul flights starting August 15 and revamp its in-flight snack offerings. The airline announced this change on August 1, citing the increase in turbulence incidents, which have more than doubled from 2019 to 2024.

Ramen service has been associated with frequent burn accidents due to hot water. In economy class, flight attendants must carry multiple cups of hot ramen at once, increasing the risk of burns in densely packed cabins.

To address these safety concerns, Korean Air will replace the ramen service with a variety of snacks to prevent burn accidents caused by turbulence. New snack options, including hot dogs, pizza, and hot pockets, will be introduced alongside the existing sandwiches. Additionally, the airline plans to diversify its self-serve snack bar, which has been available since November of last year, allowing passengers to enjoy snacks at their convenience.
