[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] At around 11 a.m. on the 8th, at the construction site of Ulleung Airport in Sadong-ri, Ulleung-eup, Ulleung-gun, where DL Engineering & Construction (DL E&C) is undertaking the project, a worker was buried alive when soil collapsed while excavating a slope using an excavator.
The fire department conducted rescue operations using heavy equipment, and at around 12:13 p.m., the worker was found. However, the worker was in a state of cardiac arrest and was transferred to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The deceased worker was employed by a subcontractor.
Following the incident, the Ministry of Employment and Labor suspended work at the site and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, as well as whether there were any violations of the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
This marks the eighth fatal accident to occur at DL E&C's site since the Major Accidents Punishment Act came into effect in January 2022.
