[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Team Naver has completed the development of the Bank of Korea’s (BOK) dedicated generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform, BOKI (Bank of Korea Intelligence), tailored specifically for financial and economic analysis. This marks the world’s first case of a central bank deploying its own AI platform into full-scale operational use.
Naver and the Bank of Korea announced on the 21st that they have officially launched BOKI during the BOK–Naver Joint AX (AI Transformation) Conference held at the Bank of Korea Conference Hall in Jung-gu, Seoul. The platform was developed through close public-private collaboration to meet the central bank’s stringent requirements for security and reliability.
Lee Hae-jin, Chairman of Naver’s Board, said, “The vast data accumulated by the Bank of Korea, which underpins the nation’s economic foundation, is itself a critical strategic asset for Korea. This project was carried out with Team Naver’s full capabilities, based on a shared understanding that trust and stability are just as important as technological speed.”
He added, “We hope this service will not only become a practical tool that transforms the Bank of Korea’s work culture, but also elevate Korea’s financial and economic analysis capabilities and strengthen the nation’s overall competitiveness.”
BOKI is the first AI platform among global central banks to be built in-house and deployed in real operational environments. It was implemented in an on-premise environment within the Bank of Korea’s internal network, completely isolated from external networks, fundamentally eliminating the risk of data leakage.
The system is designed so that both AI training and inference occur entirely within a closed network, meeting the highest security standards required by core national institutions while providing a safe foundation for the practical use of generative AI in daily 업무.
Naver Cloud provided the AI platform infrastructure and technical support, including cloud infrastructure and large language models (LLMs). The Bank of Korea, in turn, developed and operates AI applications specialized for financial and economic tasks.
With BOKI, Bank of Korea employees can receive comprehensive support for document search and summarization, Q&A, translation, economic issue analysis, and data-driven decision-making. The two organizations plan to continuously enhance the platform through ongoing learning and tuning based on the Bank’s proprietary data, further refining it into a highly specialized financial and economic AI model.
Through this project, Naver Cloud has accumulated valuable experience and operational know-how in deploying AI systems that meet the stringent security requirements of the public and financial sectors. The company plans to accelerate the expansion of AI transformation (AX) across government agencies and major financial institutions.
Kim Yuwon, CEO of Naver Cloud, said, “This project represents a globally leading case of applying AI technology to real-world operations under the highest level of security demanded by a central bank. Naver Cloud will continue to provide trustworthy AI infrastructure and services across industries, including the public and financial sectors, contributing to strengthening Korea’s AI competitiveness.”
