[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] An Eastar Jet passenger aircraft departing from Gimpo Airport landed at Jeju International Airport with its forward cargo door partially open, prompting an investigation by South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

According to Eastar Jet on the 26th, flight ZE217, carrying 177 passengers, departed Gimpo at around 3:45 p.m. on the 24th and arrived in Jeju with the forward cargo compartment door slightly ajar.

The aircraft’s pressurization system functioned normally, and the incident did not pose a safety risk during flight. However, subsequent inspections and necessary replacement procedures caused delays to the following scheduled service.

Eastar Jet stated that the aircraft passed all pre-flight checks, and the crew became aware of the issue only after a cargo-door warning light illuminated in the cockpit mid-flight.

An Eastar Jet representative added, “Black box data confirmed that there were no issues before takeoff, and the aircraft is structurally designed so the door cannot open once airborne. We believe the door may have slightly separated upon landing due to impact forces.”

The Transport Ministry is currently reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
