[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] LS Electric (010120) is doubling its production capacity for ultra-high voltage transformers to meet the increasing global demand for electricity.

On the 21st, LS Electric announced that it will invest 803 billion won to expand its core production base for ultra-high voltage power equipment at its Busan plant by next year.

LS Electric will construct a new factory on approximately 4,000 square meters of unused land near the production hall of its Busan plant. This new facility will house production processes for ultra-high voltage transformers, including assembly lines, testing labs, and welding facilities, along with two vacuum pressure drying (VPD) systems. VPD is a vacuum drying equipment that maintains the internal environment of ultra-high voltage transformers at high vacuum conditions and 120 degrees Celsius for over 72 hours to remove moisture, maximizing insulation performance.

The Busan plant of LS Electric currently has an annual production capacity of approximately 200 billion won for ultra-high voltage transformers. With recent surges in overseas demand, orders have been secured until 2026. Once the factory expansion is completed by September next year, the production capacity of the Busan plant will double to 400 billion won annually.

LS Electric aims to address the increasing demand for overseas ultra-high voltage transformers, particularly in North America, through this factory expansion.
