[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] A worker in his 40s tragically died after falling while working a night shift at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje shipyard.
According to the Tongyeong Maritime Police and Hanwha Ocean on the 10th, the incident occurred at 10:57 PM the previous day at the Geoje shipyard’s floating dock. The worker, identified as Mr. A, fell from a height of 30 meters from the upper section of a container ship under construction.
Mr. A, an employee of a subcontractor for Hanwha Ocean, was immediately taken to a hospital in cardiac arrest but was pronounced dead at 11:23 PM.
In response to the incident, Hanwha Ocean suspended production at the Okpo shipyard and conducted a special safety inspection and safety training session from 8 AM to noon on the day of the accident to prevent further serious incidents.
In an official statement, Hanwha Ocean expressed deep sorrow, stating, "Despite our best efforts to create a safe work environment following a series of unfortunate accidents this year, we are devastated and feel a heavy sense of responsibility for this tragic loss of life."
