[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] On September 10, at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Ulsan shipyard, a clash between union members and company security personnel during a strike led to injuries. According to the Metal Workers’ Union, a female union member was struck in the face by a security guard and transported to Ulsan University Hospital for treatment.
At the time, workers were holding a strike rally beneath a 40-meter turnover crane, where union branch leader Baek Ho-seon had begun a high-altitude protest earlier that morning. The union is staging seven-hour daily strikes, joined by workers at HD Hyundai Mipo and HD Hyundai Samho.
The Ulsan branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions announced it will hold an emergency rally in front of the main gate of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries at 5:30 p.m. to protest what it called repeated assaults by company security staff.
