[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] om Hee-jun, who is currently on trial for allegedly excluding a junior prosecutor from an investigation into unpaid retirement benefits at Coupang, has filed a complaint against the special counsel who investigated him, accusing them of abuse of authority and other charges.
According to a media statement released on May 12, Eom’s legal team filed a complaint with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials against Special Counsel Ahn Kwon-seop and his team, including assistant special prosecutors Kim Gi-wook and Kwon Do-hyung, as well as three seconded prosecutors. The complaint alleges abuse of authority, obstruction of the exercise of rights, disclosure of official secrets, and falsification of official documents.
Eom claimed that the special counsel deliberately omitted key facts from the indictment and excluded objective evidence in order to construct a false narrative. He also alleged that confidential investigative details were leaked to the subject of the investigation, undermining fairness and objectivity.
Eom was indicted for allegedly instructing prosecutors in charge of the Coupang retirement pay case not to inform Prosecutor Moon Ji-seok about the progress of reports to the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office while serving as head and deputy chief of the Bucheon branch of the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office in April 2025.
Separately, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Criminal Division 3 recently transferred part of the Coupang-related case, which it had received from the special counsel team, to the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials.
The anti-corruption agency confirmed on the same day that it has formally received the case for investigation.
