[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] An employee of SK hynix has become the first salaried worker to join the Chungbuk chapter of the Honor Society after donating KRW 100 million.
According to industry sources on April 23, an SK hynix employee in his 40s based at the Cheongju campus made the donation in January to the Community Chest of Korea, becoming the 99th member of the regional Honor Society—traditionally composed of business leaders.
The donor initially requested anonymity and asked that the contribution not be disclosed. However, the charity later revealed the case, citing its value as a model of philanthropy.
The Honor Society is a network of major individual donors who contribute at least KRW 100 million or pledge to do so within five years.
The news has drawn attention amid SK hynix’s strong performance-based bonuses. Earlier this year, the company paid record-level profit-sharing bonuses amounting to 2,964% of base salary. For an employee earning KRW 100 million annually, this would translate to roughly KRW 150 million in bonuses.
With robust first-quarter earnings, further increases in compensation are expected, underscoring the company’s strong financial performance.
