[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL, May 26 — DB Insurance said it will complete its acquisition of U.S.-based specialty insurer Fortegra on May 30, marking a major milestone in its global expansion strategy.
The deal, valued at $1.65 billion, will be finalized upon payment to sellers including Tiptree Inc. and Warburg Pincus. The transaction represents the largest overseas M&A by a Korean non-life insurer and the first full acquisition of a U.S. insurer by a domestic player.
Founded in 1978, Fortegra operates a diversified portfolio across specialty insurance, credit protection, and warranty services.
DB Insurance said the acquisition will provide a strategic platform for entry into the U.S. and European markets, enhancing earnings stability through geographic diversification.
The company has been actively expanding overseas, particularly in Southeast Asia, where it has acquired stakes in multiple Vietnamese insurers in recent years.
